Tabla

Tabla rows use percussion bols instead of melodic notes. They can be entered by script, autocomplete, or virtual keyboard.

Script approach

Tabla has two parts, or drums: Daya and Baya. Each drum has its own syllables, and new syllables can also be created by combining strokes from both drums.

Because stroke intensity, stroke position, and Baya pressure control can create subtle sound variations, Vishwamohini provides up to four sound variations for each syllable wherever possible. In English script, you can access those variations with tokens such as T1, t1, Ta1, and ta1.

Script snippet:

[melody start]
[D1D1|T4T8|D1D1|T3N1][tabla]
[T1T1|T4T8|D1D1|D3N1][tabla]
[melody end]

Melody table approach

  1. Select a beat in a tabla or theka row.
  2. Type letters to search bols with autocomplete.
  3. Use Arrow Up or Arrow Down to choose a suggestion.
  4. Press Enter to insert the selected bol.

Keyboard approaches

  • Real keyboard: use 1, 2, 3, or 4 to select the tabla variation, then type letters for autocomplete.
  • Virtual keyboard: choose Variation 1, Variation 2, Variation 3, or Variation 4, then click bol keys.
  • Rest: press - or use - in script for a silent percussion beat.
